Callaway Native Had Been A Dairyman At MSD For 23 Years
John Wesley Herring, 76, a native of Callaway County and a resident of Fulton nearly all of his life, died Monday afternoon at his home, 707 Grand street, where he had been confined by illness since last November.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Karl W. Tuttle officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Wallace Funeral Home until time for the service.
Pallbearers will be Dick Page, Frank Carr, Will Wren, Virgil Gathright, Morris Conner and Guy Craighead.
Born on June 29, 1874, near Fulton, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Herring. He was married to the former Miss Sally Woods in 1902, and she died 35 years ago. He was married to the former Miss Clara Mae Woods on Sept. 1, 1917. She survives.
He had been a dairyman at the Missouri School for the Deaf for 23 years before retiring about a year ago. He had lived in Fulton for the past 30 years at the present address. He was a member of the First Christian Church and had been a deacon for seven years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Ray and a daughter, Mrs, Ralph Baxter, both of Elkhart, Ind.; a stepson, Roy Dunavant of Overland; a brother, Luther Herring of Fulton; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Eager of Abiline, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.
