Notes |
- Date of birth guessed because of date of marriage, age range on 1810 and 1820. We know he was a son of Henry Hill, however, he was born 4 years before the marriage of Henry Hill and Susanna Jones. Susanna Jones may have been a second wife.
From Albemarle Co. marriage records:
Charles Hill & Molly Hill, 30 Dec. 1795, b-John Hill (Rec. of Marr. Bonds, 1780-1806) wit. Francis Anderson.
We believe that Charles and Molly Hill's youngest son was the Charles Hill born 1818, who married Sarah Tatum (daughter of Mary Herring and Thomas Tatum). On the 1820 census for Charles Hill in Albemarle Co., there is a ticky mark for a male under age 10. On the 1840 Callaway Co. census, there was an unmarried male age 20 but under 30 living with John B. Herring and Mariah Hill Herring. Charles would have been 22 in 1840 and was Mariah's youngest brother. Benjamin Herring, John B. Herring's father came to Missouri with John B. and Mariah Hill Herring. Benjamin's wife Nancy Hill was Charles Hill's Aunt. It is reasonable that with John B. Herring and Mariah Hill Herring both being Charles close relatives, that he also came with them to Missouri. In 1850, Callaway Co. Census, Charles had just married Sarah Tatum and was living with Morgan Hill and Nancy Scrogham Hill. Charles was Morgn's youngest brother.
John Hill, son of Henry Hill, was the Uncle of Charles Hill. He was also the Great Uncle of Sarah Tatum Hill. In 1900, Sarah Tatum Hill was living in the house of Ambrose Brockman Hill who was the grandson of John Hill. She was listed as daughter.... but that was obviously a mistake. In 1910, Ambrose B. Hill's children were living with Sarah Tatum Hill, listed as grandchildren. In 1860, 1870, and 1880, Sarah Tatum Hill lived next door to the Ambrose Brockman Hills. There was a close relationship between these families.
Charles Hill was a son of Charles Hill and therefore brother of Morgan and Mariah Hill, even tho he was 22 years younger than Charles Hill's oldest daughter Mariah. This may have been true as we know that Charles Hill was still alive in 1819, one year after the younger Charles Hill was born. He may have had a second wife, or his wife might have had children for 22 years. We have also not yet found all of Charles and Molly Hill's children. We do believe this relationship exists. If he was a son, it is reasonable that his parents died early in his life, which is why he would have come to Missouri in 1831 at the age of 13 with his older sister and family.
