  From the book, A History of Callaway County Missouri, 1884; which is not always accurate: Justinian Cave, farmer and stock raiser. Henry Cave, Sr., the grandfather of the subject of this sketch, emigrated from Scott county, Kentucky, with his family, in 1816, to Boone county Missour, where he entered a section of land and improved a farm. He lived there until his death, which occurred in 1848. His son, Henry Cave, Jr., the father of Justinian, was born in Scott county, Kentucky, on the 4th of June, 1800, and was therefore sixteen years of age when the family moved to Missouri. After he grew up, he was married to Miss Frances Craig, who was born in Scott county, Kentucky in March, 1805. They were married in Boone county in 1827, and subsequently moved to Callaway county. Of their family of eleven children, six are still living. Justinian, the subject of this sketch; Marcellus, a leading attorney of clay county; Margaret, Harriet, wife of John R. Boyd, of Audrain county; Helen, wife of William Duncan, of Gallatin county, Montana, and Martha, wife of John V. Craig, of Jasper county. Tose deceased are Henry T., Catherine A., Permelia and Louisa. The father died January 23, 1858. The mother died ten years before, October 11, 1848. The father was a farmer by occupation, and left a good farm of 240 acres. Justinian after he grew up was married in this county November 19, 1855, to Miss Mary E. Gathwright, daughter of Matthew W. and Mary J. (Withers) Gathwright, who were early settlers and well-to-do residents of the county, originally from Culpepper county, Virginia. But one other of their family of seven children is now living, John F. Gathwright. The father died January 23, 1876; the mother, April 23, 1880. They left an estate of 600 acres of fine land. The same year of his marriage, Mr. Justinian Cave settled on a farm in section 1, where he still owns 500 acres of land, but he is now residing on the old Gathwright homestead. Mr. Cave grows annually about 100 acres of grain and raises considerable stock. He makes something of a specialty of raising sheep, of which he has about 160 head. Mr. and Mrs. Cave have a family of nine children: Mary F., Matthew W., Justinian, James W., Hester L., Jane, Marcellus and John F. (twins), and Malinda O. One, Anna L., died in infancy.
