    • Stanley "Pat" Hawkins of Mexico, died Friday, Jan.8, 2010 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.

He was born March 26, 1917 in rural Callaway County, the son of S.W. and Elizabeth Josephine (Wenger) Hawkins. He married Lucille (Adams) Hawkins on Dec. 20, 1936. She preceded him in death on January 12, 2001.

Survivors include one daughter, Faye (Gene) Peak of Wellsville, Mo., three sons, Wallace Lee Hawkins and Dan (Julia) Hawkins both of Higginsville, Mo. and Larry (Gerry) Hawkins of Bozeman Montana. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and one daughter, Pat Prater. Pat served in the Navy during WWII as an aircraft mechanic. He worked for Wetterau Foods as a receiving clerk in Mexico for 25 years retiring in 1975. After retirement, Stan & Lucille traveled extensively over the United States. They spent the winters as "snowbirds" in the valley of southern Texas at Weslaco. Along the way, they made many, many friends, whom they stayed in contact with long after they stopped traveling. They were charter members of the Little Dixie Campers & Hikers.

When traveling, Stan's hobby was photography, recording on film all the beautiful places they visited. When home, he enjoyed woodworking in his shop. He truly enjoyed making wooden furniture & toys for his grandkids & great-grandkids. He was well known for his pecan pies that he made in his later years.

Stan & Lucille were members and active in the First Baptist Church of Mexico for years.
