His middle name is Lyle on 1880, the initial D. on 1910 and in his mother-in-law's obit, the initial G. on 1900 census, his death certificate, and marriage notice. I have no idea which is right, the name Lyle was while he was still living at home with his mother. On 1920, he doesn't use a middle name or initial.

On the 1910 census, a Howard P. Herring age 15, cousin, is living with this family. I wonder if he is the Polard Herring I found son of James J., grandson of James C., Ggrandson of John and Lucy, born abt 1891. The age is off by 4 years, but this Polard Herring has been a mystery.

James G. Herring July 04, 1927 Callaway Gazette
The dates on their headstone in Hillcrest cemetery are wrong. I guess that the stone was put up long after they had died and someone simply used the year 1925 as death year for both of them. Birth year for James and Clara are both off by 8 years.
