Notes |
- From the History of Callaway County, 1984 book:
Vineta graduated from Fulton High School and William Woods College. She also attended college at Kirksville and Warrensburg and almost finished her degree at Missouri University. She worked for seventeen years in offices in Kansas City, Jefferson City, and Fulton: Sears Roebuck-correspondent; State Auditor-general office; U.S. Government-welfare visitor; Callaway Hospital-office manager and assistant to the first business manager. She also taught in rural schools: Walnut Grove and Hereford, in north Callaway; and in Carrington. She retired at 57 years of age because of arthritis.Vineta is a member of the Fulton Woman's Club, the Callaway County Democratic Central Committee, the Women's Democratic Club, the Rebekah Lodge, and the First Christian Church in Fulton (she joined Central Church at age 12). She is a charter member of the Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society. Her hobbies include crocheting, making afghans, bedspreads, pillows, etc., for presents and a few for sale. She has also sold History of Callaway County, 1884 reprints for about ten years, having sold 500 or more books here and across the United States. Vineta has always been politically active, as were her parents. She has served as county campaign manager for several canidates and, over the years, has met and known many noted politicians.
Homer and Vineta own 80 acres on Aiport Road, known as the Boyes Place. Ancestors of both came here from Virginia in the 1800's and settled near Williamsburg and Bachelor in eastern Callaway County.
