  • Notes
    • From the History of Callaway County 1884 book, which is not always accurate:
John W. Howe was born in Fleming county Kencucky, September 26, 1837. His father, J.D. and mother, Margaret A. (Henderson) Howe, were also natives of Kentucky, who removed to Missouri in 1846 and located in Callaway county on a farm near where Mr. John W. now resides. The elder Howe died in 1848. He was a school teacher in those early days, and, possessing considerable musical talent, also taught vocal music. John W. was educated in the common schools of the county. January 14, 1858 he married Miss Sarah F. Wells, a member of one of the pioneer families of the county, and who was born in the neighborhood. By this marriage there was one child, Charles H. Mrs. Howe died May 8, 1867. On July 1, 1868, Mr. H. married Miss Nannie A. Turner, daughter of Mr. C.A. Turner, formerly from Kentucky. Miss Turner was also a native of Fleming county, Kentucky, and a teacher in the public schools for fifteen years prior to her marriage. By this marriage there are three children: Nannie Howard, Thomas Nesbitt, and Maggie Laura. Mr. Howe's homestead consists of 155 acres of land all fenced, and with 90 acres in cultivation. His residence is a good two-story frame building, and he has a good barn and a good youn bearing orchard. Both Mr. and Mrs. Howe are members of the Old School Presbyterian Church.

Birth date on death certificate says Sept 26, 1836
