- T.Ed. Carter Dies Saturday In This City
Retired Veteran Grocer Of Fulton Succumbs Shortly Before Noon
Thomas Edward Carter, retired Fulton grocery merchant died Saturday morning at 11:18 o'clock after an illness of several months. He was 75 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Wallace Funeral Home with burial in Hillcrest cemetery. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Mark S. Horn.
Mr. Carter was born October 11, 1868 in Fulton, the son of John Robert and Margaret Ann Carter, and spent his entire life time in Fulton and Callaway county. He was engaged in the grocery business for many years until retiring in 1927 when he moved to a farm near New Bloomfield. Last December however, when he became ill, he and Mrs. Carter returned to Fulton to make their home with a daughter, Mrs. F.B. Myers of Court street.
Mr. Carter, while engaged in business here, took an active interest in civic affairs. He was a member of the Fulton Board of Education for 12 years, serving part of the time as president of the board, and for a number of years was a member of the City Council.
He was married September 25, 1894 to Mary Nancy Dorris of Holts Summit, and five children were born to this union.
Besides his wife and daughter Mrs. Myers, he is survived by four other children; Mrs. Albert D. Williams of Charleston, W. Va., Dr. John Ed Carter of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Dorris W. Carter of Philadelphia, Pa., and Lt. Joseph A. Carter of the Army Air Forces, who is stationed in Malden, Mo. Also surviving are two sisters, Miss Dorothy Carter and Mrs. Josephine Carter Herring. Two other sisters, Mrs. Nova Carter Rogers and Mrs. Bess Carter Blackburn, preceeded him in death.

Edward Carter Miss Mayme N. Downs 26 Sept 1894 G72
Bad transcription of the old record, her last name was Dorris.
He died at 603 1/2 Court Street, Fulton, he had been there for 5 days. I don't know if there was a small hospital or sanitarium there or what. His usual address was 900 Court Street, Fulton, Missouri. His birthplace was listed as "west of Fulton". He was a retired grocer at the time of his death. His son, John Ed. Carter of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, gave the information for his death certificate.
In going through old newspapers, I have seen numerous ads for his store, T.Ed Carter is the way he advertised himself.
