From daughter Mary Ann's obituary:
With her parents she made the overland journey from Virginia to this county in 1832, being at that time about twelve years of age. Fulton then extended from Stinson Creek to the court house square. The family made their first home in what is now the old Gerhardt residence, south of the creek. Later they moved to a farm north of the John Maloney farm, a few miles northwest of town.
