    • I think he might have been a son of Robert Brooks, grandson of James Brooks Sr. Robert died about 1850, and is buried in same cemetery as Robert F. Brooks wife, and on 1850 census, There are many headstones missing or unreadable in the cemetery, his father could be buried there also. Proximity of graves also links him to Robert Brooks.

      In 1850 at age 4, he was living with Permelia Bullard family. The neighbors were, George Gray family, Robert Holt family, Abner Holt family, Elizabeth Brooks (widow of James), and Tylman Vaughan. All relatives. Permelia was the widow of John M. Bullard, her maiden name was Barger. Her sister, Harriet Barger, was the wife of John D. Holt, brother of Robert Holt, both deceased. Permelia Bullard was Robert F. Holt's Aunt.

      Robert and Rachel were 1st cousins, 2nd cousins, and, 3rd cousins.

      I found the death certificate of his sister, Louisa Brooks Gibbs, in 1912, and he gave the information for her death certificate. This makes it fairly certain that he was a son of Robert Brooks and Elizabeth Rhodes, as they are named as parents.
