Samuel Edwin Carrington and Mary Ellen Miller

Samuel Edwin Carrington was born August 10, 1863 in Callaway Co., Missouri. He was a son of Samuel Carrington and Lydia Ann Bowen and was my great granduncle.

On December 9, 1885, in Callaway Co., Missouri, he married Mary Ellen Miller. She was born Feb. 9, 1855 in Pennsylvania, a daughter of John Miller and Fianna Harter. She worked at a dairy in a stone barn before being married.

From J. Terry's files:      "Samuel left home shortly after the death of his father because his mother was sick and unable to take care of farm. He worked on a farm in Ham's Prairie for a while. Mary's father, John Miller, gave a parcel of his land to Sam and Mary. This land adjoins current county road NN. The house that Sam built there has been torn down.
Samuel is reported to have been a big man who like "ham meat and brown gravy". He is also said to have had a horse that could make the trip from his home to Fulton in 12 to 15 minutes, a distance of 7 miles. Sam farmed most of his life. He and Mary lived on the farm until the last few years of their lives when they lived with their daughter, Lillie May on Jefferson Street in Fulton."
