May 21st, 1883, at the residence of his son, J.L. Overton, near Prairie Chapel, James F. Overton, aged 77 years. Funeral at Richland Church, remains interred in cemetery there.

Death of Jas. W. Overton
Another venerable and useful citizen of Callaway county has taken his departure - Mr. Overton was born in Kentucky, Sept 26, 1806, married Miss Mildred Guthrie in 1826 and moved from Kentucky to Missouri in 1827. The year after his arrival in this State he had the misfortune to lose his wife. In 1831, he married Miss Harriet Blackwell Baynham, sister of the late Charles and Grief Baynham. His second wife also preceeded him by a few years to the land of glory. One brother, Dudley Overton of St. Louis county, one sister, Mrs. Martha Farmer of Ceder City, and two children, John L. Overton and Mrs. Mary Overton, are the immediate family.
