Callaway Weekly Gazette, Sept. 1936, Mrs Bettie Carrington Hook, 91 years old, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Mary Lyle, Dallas, Texas, Sept 7, leaving one daughter, two granddaughters, two greatgranddaughters in Dallas, one grandson of Wink, Texas, a brother and numerous kin. Her death leaves W.T.Carrington the only surviving member of the old Judge William Carrington family, one of the many to flourish before the Civil War. Mrs. Hook was left alone with four small children in 1877 in the midst of the great depression and with little help from direct surroundings she set to work in Fulton as a seamstress to support and educate her children which she did quite well.
