Maupin Funeral Home Obituary, Sep. 16, 2009, Walter G. "Chic" Herring, age 86, of Fulton, Missouri, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. He was born Septembr 26, 1922, in Fulton, Missouri, the son of the late Roy and Rachal Mary (Davenport) Herring. In 1942, he was united in marriage to Vivian (Young) Herring who survives at their home. In addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by: one daughter, Scarlett (Ned) Murphy, of Greenfield, Indiana; one son, Randall (Mary Ann) Herring, of Fulton, Missouri; four grandchildren, Scott, Zach, Kelley, and Kenny; four great-grandchildren, Avery, Savannah, Evan, and Georgia; other relatives and many dear friends. His parents and two brothers, Paul Herring and Merril Herring, preceded him in death. Walter served our country in the United States Army during World war II and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He owned and operated Walter Herring Construction in Fulton, Missouri, where he developed homes. He built and developed Thunderbird Lake. He started the Older Adults Transportation Service, he was a Callaway County Judge, and he served on the Fulton City Council representing the 2nd Ward, Callaway County Public Library Board, and Riverview Nursing Home Board. He was one of the original organizers of the Fulton Coffee Club, who drank coffee at Mom's Cafe. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, Missouri, with Rev. Steve Mallinckrodt officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Interment will be held at Callaway Memorial Gardens.
