Hannibal Courier-Post, August 26, 2002, Paul A. Herring, 85, of Hannibal, died at 5:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Levering Regional Health Care Center in Hannibal. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at Smith Funeral Chapel in Hannibal. The Rev. Mr. Gene Pierceall will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park. Mr. Herring was born Jan. 4, 1917, in Mexico, Mo., to Letus and Rosene Mosley Herring.He was married to Juanita R. Cox on Jan. 23, 1937, in Hannibal. She preceded him in death Feb. 17, 1992. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Knickerbocker and her husband, J.H., of Hannibal; one son, Russell Herring and his wife, Yvonne, of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Kevin Knickerbocker of Hannibal, Mark Knickerbocker of Spalding, Allen Herring of Seattle and Heidi Bell of Houston; one great-granddaughter; three great-grandsons; and one sister, Pauline Smith of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Baysinger; and one brother, Marvin Herring. Paul and Juanita Herring owned and operated Elders Furniture on Market Street for many years. They retired in 1981. He was a member of Fifth Street Baptist Church.He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a lifetime member of Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55.
