Georgie Anne Herring was a daughter of Nathaniel and Susan Hill Herring. Nathan Herring was my 2nd great granduncle. Nathan was a son of George and Elizabeth Closby Herring, and the brother of my 2nd great grandfather George W. Herring Sr. and my 3rd great grandfather John Herring Georgie Anne was born in 1829 in Albemarle Co., Virginia. On December 20, 1849, she married James Meredith. James was born in Kentucky in 1817. They were married in Callaway Co., Missouri and by 1860 they lived in Boone Co. Mo. James Meredith was a son of John and Jane Meredith. John was from Deleware, Jane from Pennsylvania originally. John and Jane Meredith had 9 children. James Meredith was a brother of Thomas Meredith who married Nancy Tatum, daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Herring Tatum. Georgie Anne Herring and James Meredith had 7 children. I believe they were all born in Boone Co., but the oldest ones might have been born in Callaway.
The children's names came from the 1860 census and 1870 census records. I found James and Georgia Anne on the 1880 Boone Co., Missouri census, living on a farm with sons John, James, and Walter. I have not found any other reference to this family on any other census. I know that Georgia Anne was still alive in 1884 because she signed a paper in her father's probate packet. |
