James Simcoe Hill and Elizabeth Fletcher



Elizabeth Fletcher was my great grandaunt. She was born in Callaway Co. Missouri February 17, 1844, a daughter of John F. Fletcher and Judith Simco. She was a grandaughter of John Sr. and Mary Fletcher. They came from Virginia to Callaway Co. Missouri about 1826.

On November 19, 1863, she married her 1st cousin James Simcoe Hill. James was born June 2, 1839 in Callaway Co., Missouri. He was a son of Willis C. Hill and Elizabeth Wharton Simco.

Elizabeth Wharton Simco Hill and Judith Simco Fletcher were sisters. James's grandparents were John Hill and Agnes Brockman, and, James Simco and Frances Canada. James was also my 1st cousin 3 times removed through the Hill family.

James Hill was conscripted to duty during the Civil War, on Dec. 3, 1862, but furnished a substitute

Elizabeth Fletcher Hill died June 22, 1903 in Callaway County Missouri. She is buried in the Central Christian Church Cemetery, Callaway Co. Missouri.

James Simcoe Hill died January 13, 1918 in Fulton Township, Callaway Co. Missouri. He is buried in the Central Christian Church Cemetery, Callaway Co. Missouri.

Death of Mrs. James Hill
     Mrs. Elizabeth Hill, wife of James Hill, died at her farm home three miles west of Fulton on Monday and the remains were interred at Central Christian church yard on Tuesday. Mrs. Hill had been in bad health with rheumatic troubles for some years but the malady which caused her death, cancer of the stomach, did not develop until last May. She was 59 years of age and was a charter member of Central Christian church in which faith she was an earnest and consistent follower.
     Her maiden name was Elizabeth Fletcher and six sisters, Mrs, J.R. Carter of this city, Mrs. E.M. Sitton, cote San Dressin, Mrs. William Willing Jr., west of town, Mrs. Thomas Jones, Salisbury, Mrs. Susan Oestreich, Salisbury, and Mrs. Eliza Gilpin, Kansas, are left to mourn her demise, as well as the husband and four children whose names are J.W. Hill, M.E. Hill, Noah F. Hill, and Miss Inez Hill.
