Mayme Herring and Scott Waters

Mayme May Herring was the sixth child of George Washington Herring Jr. and Josima McNerva Allen. She was born April 1, 1880 in Callaway Co. Missouri. Mayme was my grandaunt.

On Feb 25, 1903, she married Scott Waters. Scott Waters was born in 1878 in Callaway Co., Missouri. He was a son of James White Waters and Susan Love.

Mayme Herring and Scott Waters had one child, Vernon Waters. I have a lot of information about Vernon who was better known by his stage name Ozie Waters. He was a musician, singer, and actor. Click Here

In the 1910 census, Scott Waters is listed as a farmer in Callaway Co. St Aubert Twp. In 1920 they were living in Fulton, Missouri.

In 1930 census, they are living in Fulton Township, either next door or in same house as Mayme's brother, Clyde. They list rent, and amout says free. They do not own a radio. His age listed as 52, hers 50, his age at marriage is 24. His occupation is minor at the fire clay mine.

I do not have a death date for Scott Waters. Mayme Herring Waters died June 27, 1971 in Fulton, Callaway Co., Missouri. She was in the State Hospital in Fulton for several years before her death. She was divorced from Scott Waters sometime before 1930, he is not mentioned in her obituary.
